The Founders of The Galapagos Project

The founders of The Galapagos Project have decades of experience in humane wildlife control, animal welfare and community activism.

Dr. Loretta Mayer of WISDOM and Emma Clifford of Animal Balance, have admired each other’s work for years. They first met in 2003 at the first conference of Alliance for Contraception in Cats & Dogs, where Loretta was presenting early findings on the potential for a non-surgical spay approach for dogs and Emma was preparing to go to the Galapagos islands to spay and neuter dogs and cats.

As Emma recalls: “I wanted to use non-surgical means to kindly manage the rats, cats and dogs of the Galapagos, but I was 19 years too early.”

Now, however, they are combining forces to employ fertility control to benefit all who live on the islands and restore ecological balance to the Galapagos.
